In 2001, while recording my album, Green Voodoo, Jesse 'guitar' Taylor and myself opened a show for Merle Haggard at Gruene Hall, in New Braunfels, Texas. Jesse had done some touring with Merle Haggard as part of Joe Ely's band, back in the late 70s.He and Bonnie Owens remembered each other, so I f got to meet her and spend some time talking to her. She is one of the most charming and beautiful women I have ever met. Standing a few fet away, while she sang those wonderful harmonies on songs like Today I Started Loving You Again is a memory I treasure.
